Fan Frenzy Over Perceived Racist Comment
Internet forums went into meltdown on Friday night after
a comment made by Mikey on the live feed while waiting for
the 4th eviction to take place.
It was believed that the 33-year-old used the word 'ni**er'
when reciting the children's rhyme 'Eenie, meenie, miny, mo'.
Shocked fans were up-in-arms because Emily Parr got thrown-out
last year for using the word in the presence of a pal, whereas
Mikey said it in the presence of Darnell, someone he doesn't
like and who is technically black.
Indeed, with Maysoon nearby, the radio producer had only
just mentioned Darnell, saying that he's the 'chief of conspiracies'
among the group.
Confusion and outrage followed, along with speculation that
the show's producers would be considering their options overnight
in respect of removing Mikey from the game. Many fans called
for his immediate ejection, whatever his intent.
Whatsmore, Channel 4 forum moderators deleted multiple threads
from the official discussion forums as fans tried to get to
the bottom of the matter. This just added to the speculation
and confusion, with fans fearing a cover-up if Mikey did actually
use the 'n' word.
Eventually, a clip of the alleged incident was put on the
internet and fans realised that it had been a false alarm.
Having reviewed the footage, Big Brother Online can confirm
that Mikey used the word 'finger'.
