||Dirk Benedict, aka 'The Face' or 'Faceman'
||Montana in the USA
|Why are you taking part in Celebrity Big Brother
||"For two reasons: my teenage sons. They persuaded
me to do it. I'm a bit of a recluse and I haven't been around people
in a while, so they think the show will get me out of my comfort zone."
|What do you think you'll get from the experience
of taking part in CBB5?:
||"Well, this is my 'coming out' party... and probably
my 'going back in and hiding again' party! I'm expecting 25 days of
absolute hell, and I can't think of one thing that I'll like about
the experience. I don't like celebrities, I don't hang out with actors
and I hate being in front of the camera these days."
Although having been involved in plenty of TV and
film projects over the years (including Battlestar Galactica), Dirk
is best known as the suave con man Templeton 'Faceman' Peck in the
cult action adventure TV show The A-Team.
The 1980's show, which also starred Mr. T, George Peppard and
Dwight Schultz, ran for just under 4 years. About his time in it
Dirk says, "I enjoyed The A-Team immensely. By nature I'm terribly
serious, so as an actor I tend to want to be silly. The actors I
worked with, especially Mr. T and Dwight, were very fun people.
It was pretty-much four years of laughter".
Growing up in the wilds of Montana, Dirk spent his childhood hunting,
fishing and playing sports. His father died when he was 18 and as
a trainee actor Dirk started using the stage name 'Benedict' after
his agent suggested it, inspired by Dirk's favourite brekkie, Eggs
An author of a number of books, Dirk was diagnosed with prostrate
cancer in 1981 and claimed to have survived the disease without
surgery, by following a macrobiotic diet combined with exercise
and fasting. He has three children, is an expert at fly fishing,
holds a private pilots licence and composes his own music. Dirk
would not enter the BB House unless he was allowed to bring his
stash of huge cigars in.
