Rachel And Dennis Win Endurance Task

Following-on from Big Bro's Day 1 secret mission, it was the first task proper this afternoon, which would test the contestants' endurance.

First, the sixteen housemates had to don lurid red, blue, silver and gold lamé outfits; not the most fetching clobber. Indeed, mouth-almighty Alexandra was the first to complain, whinging that the skimpy metallic catsuits did nothing for her street cred. Luke looked particularly silly in his.

The housemates then had to stand on platforms and hold boards over their heads connected to light switches. If their arms dropped too much, their individual light would start flashing and they'd be out-of the game.

Almost as soon as the task got going, Steph's light came on and she was out, blaming her early exit on the fact that she was just getting adjusted. Luke soon followed, but embarrassingly, muscle-bound Mario lasted just a minute-or-so longer than the skinny student.

The 43-year-old bodybuilder later blamed it on the fact that he'd been exercising his arms; a fair point given that he was stretching a makeshift bungee for some time in the morning. But even so!

After about 15 minutes, most of the group were out, but bad loser Alex sat on the sofa moaning, "For f*** sake, you've got to tell them to stop cheating". And shortly after, Big Bro disqualified Michael for not having unfastened his switch properly, meaning his light was never going to come on.

But it was Lisa, Dennis and Rachel who lasted the longest, the tenacious trio still in the game after an incredible hour-and-three-quarters. However, shortly after guessing that she must have been going for at least an hour, Lisa faltered and her light came on. She was out.

This made Den and Rachel the winners, and having lasted a mammoth 1 hour 55 minutes, the determined pair collapsed on the floor. They were duly rewarded with a picnic by Big Bro, and will go on to compete in the second round of the food budget task tomorrow.
