Widespread Speculation As The Show Goes Off-Air

Fans went into a frenzy of speculation this afternoon when the Big Brother live feed went completely off-air for hours on end.

The 24/7 live feed is usually available by pressing the red button on NTL or Sky, but is also available on Freeview and, at a cost, on the internet.

However, from around 2pm until gone 6pm, there was no footage of the House transmitted at all; all fans got to see was a spinning gold logo accompanied by the message 'BIG BROTHER LIVE is off for maintenance but will return soon'.

Some fans speculated that it had something to do with a helicopter flying over earlier, while others suggested that there'd been a big bust-up in the House.

Another (unlikely) theory was that the show was immediately shut down by Ofcom because Jayne said the worst swear word possible (the c-word) when describing how she felt about her punishment.

It is true that this incident slipped through the net, and frankly, it makes a mockery of the fact that the sound output on a huge percentage of the live coverage is being censored this year, something fans are getting really cheesed-off about.

Channel 4, however, are sticking with the explanation that it was simply routine maintenance, although it seems a little unbelievable that the show would need to be off-air for so long if they were just replacing a few bits of kit.

Hmmm, let the speculation continue...
