We'll probably be berated by some fans for noting this, but
we can't help noticing that Steve has upped his game in terms
of talking about his false limb requirements lately.
While we recognise that daily life must be a struggle for
the bomb-blast victim and double-amputee, we don't think that
he should win Big Brother 11 'just because' of his disabilities.
And the majority of fans feel the same way according to popularity
Although he was the bookies' favourite at the beginning of
the series, Steve has never been popular with fans, mainly
because he has come across as a bit too bossy, grumpy, lazy
and even letchy.
Unlike many of the guests who've appeared on BBLB this season
and insisted on paying lip service to the 41-year-old, we
can't pretend that we want him to win or make allowances for
his behaviour based on his disabilities.
Frankly, Steve isn't popular with viewers, and his peers
have set him up for a big fall by going on-and-on about how
likely he is to win the series. The thing is, he obviously
believes it, because recently all he's talked about is spending
the £100k prize money on new legs, or just referenced
his legs even though it wasn't relevant to the conversation.
The ex-army man is blatantly going for the sympathy vote,
which a better (read: more fun, less static) contestant might
have been able to pull off. Instead, fans have been discussing
the fact that according to him, he likes to spend his money
on prestige cars, flash watches and tattoos, and they wonder
why they should help him.
We certainly don't begrudge Steve – who's currently
walking around on odd
legs – getting himself sorted for a decent pair
of high-tech limbs if he really is in need, but frankly, the
show's fans aren't going to pick someone who's done virtually
nothing all series as their winner, whatever their problems.
