Originally set at Friday the 17th, they will now accept applications until Monday the 20th of January 2003.

At last count, well over 9,000 video tapes had already been received, almost matching the phenomenal response from potential BB3 candidates last year.

Expecting a last minute surge, the show's production team are currently wading through sacks of video tapes and will view each-and-every one of them before shortlisting for interview.

The decision to extend the closing date was made partly due to the fact that the company sending-out Application Forms on behalf of Big Brother, took two weeks off over Christmas.

Producers recently got wind that a number of people had only just received their Forms, so they decided to give those who wish to apply a bit more breathing space.

Talking to Big Brother Online earlier this week, BB4 Series Editor Simon Welton said, "If people have gone to the effort of making a tape and filling-out the application form, the least we can do is accept their application and give them a fair go."
